Frontier Airlines may not have succeeded in merging with Spirit Airlines, but it is making news with a batch of new routes and cheap introductory fares.
The Denver-based low-cost carrier announced ten new non-stop routes from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX). Some new routes will launch in November 2022, while others will begin in January 2023.

New Frontier Flights from PHX in November 2022
Daily flights from PHX to Philadelphia International Airport (PHL), California’s Orange County Airport (SNA), and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) will begin on November 5, 2022.
On November 6, flights between Phoenix Sky Harbor and Oregon’s Portland International Airport (PDX) kick off. The service will be thrice-weekly starting February 19, 2023, and Frontier says will be offered less frequently before that.
Frontier will begin flying daily between Phoenix and Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI) on November 17, 2022.
New Frontier Flights from PHX in January 2023
On January 12, 2023, Frontier will begin service from PHX to both Nashville International Airport (BNA) and Kansas City International Airport (MCI).
A day later, January 13, 2023, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA), Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP), and Indianapolis International Airport (IND) will start being served by Frontier out of PHX.
Service, which won’t be fully in place until the week of February 19, 2023, will include twice-weekly service from PHX to Indianapolis; thrice-weekly service from PHX to Nashville and Kansas City; and four flights a week between PHX and Minneapolis-St. Paul.
Frontier deal alert
Frontier’s 100th aircraft — an Airbus A320 neo — features “Chinook the Gray Wolf” on its tail. Chinook, according to Frontier, was a female wolf-dog hybrid rescued in the 1990s/FRONTIER AIRLINES.
Frontier is debuting these new routes with limited-time discounted fares for travel through February and March 2022, depending on service start dates. Fares range from $19 to $99, depending on the date and destination. Tickets must be purchased by 11:59 pm, Easter Time, on August 30, 2022. Other restrictions apply.
“I just checked a random week at the beginning of December, and I could fly PHX to BWI for $158 RT,” said Becky Blaine, TPG’s new newsletter editor. “The only other nonstop service on that route is Southwest. American Airlines canceled its flight in April 2020.” Blaine said the Southwest flight for the same dates was a whopping $623.
With the new service, Frontier Airlines will be serving 22 destinations from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. The expansion coincides with Frontier’s planned November 2022 opening of a new crew base at PHX Airport, which will be the airline’s eighth pilot base in the United States and its ninth flight attendant base. Frontier says the new crew base is expected to initially employ up to 180 pilots and up to 275 flight attendants.
“Frontier Airlines is quickly advancing in Phoenix, and these ten new routes mark the growth of business and leisure travelers choosing our great city as a destination,” Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego said in a news statement. She added that the city is also “grateful for the commitment that Frontier has made with its crew base and the employment opportunities it provides.”
At Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, Frontier Airlines flights operate out of Terminal 3. Amenities in that terminal include animal relief areas, nursing rooms, and an array of exhibits presented by the Phoenix Airport Museum showcasing Arizona artists and cultural heritage both before and after security.
